Showbiz :LOS ANGELES - ACTRESS Lindsay Lohan was sentenced on Friday to 120 days in jail for violating her probation on a 2007 drunk driving conviction.

Lohan was taken from a Los Angeles court by sheriff's deputies officials at the end of a preliminary hearing on a jewellery theft charge.

Lohan was earlier ordered to stand trial in June on a reduced, misdemeanor charge of stealing a US$2,500 (S$3,086) necklace in January.

But the judge on Friday ruled that the jewellery incident was a probation violation and sentenced her to 120 days jail and 480 hours community service.

Lohan's lawyer said she would file an immediate appeal. -- REUTERS
